Proposed Public Bin Upgrades
While some news isn't the most exciting, BCP Council are proposing what is described as a major upgrade to public bins.
You can read all about it here.
Key Points
The council currently manages around 2,800 litter and dog waste bins.
Many of the bins are now old, discourage usage and are difficult for crews to empty safely.
Replacements will be phased over several years.
Initial funding of £200,000 will be from the bin replacement Capital Investment Budget, with a further £60,000 from the Waste Infrastructure Grant.
The council will also look at “recycling on the go” bins - these provide recycling options, rather than just disposal.
Combination bins will replace separate dog and litter bins.
Underground bins may be an option for busy town centres - offering hidden capacity.
The aim is to make collections easier and safer. Residents will be able to request new public bins through an online form.
