[EXPIRED] National Swift Awareness Week
Christchurch Harbour Ornithological Group (CHOG), BCP Council and The Parks Foundation are holding a series of events for National Swift Awareness Week. Events are being held across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole, see below:
- Swift Funday, Sunday 28th June, 10am – 3pm, Hengistbury Head Visitor Centre, Southborne:
- Swift Talk, 29th June 6pm – 7pm, Druitt Hall, Christchurch:
- Swifts in the Community:
There will be a day of fun and craft activities for both children and adults, including badge making. Information on Swifts and what we can do to help bolster their declining populations will be available.
Join local ‘Swiftsperts’ Robin Harley and Josh Clarke (BCP Greenspace & Conservation Team) for a ‘banging’ presentation on how we can help these enigmatic, but declining, summer visitors. See unique home cam footage of these birds in their nest box. Find out about their amazing ecology and habits, and learn what steps you can take to welcome Swifts into (or possibly onto) your home to maximise their chance of recovery. (also learn some new Swift terminology!).
Meet members of CHOG and The Parks Foundation who will be talking about the local Swift populations. They will include the life cycle of this astonishing bird, and what we can do to help build up their populations in their local hotspots. Swift boxes and silhouettes will be on show.
